Indiana DNR calls for public input on 2026 Deer Management Survey

By Staff Writer | Published on February 2, 2026

INDIANA The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Fish & Wildlife is officially inviting hunters and residents to participate in its Annual Deer Management Survey. The feedback gathered from this initiative is considered vital for making future deer management decisions across the state.

The survey aims to gauge public perception of deer populations and, for those who hunt, collect data on harvest behaviors and hunting experiences. Notably, the 2026 survey includes new sections regarding the management of epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD), commonly known as bluetongue, which affects Indiana’s deer populations.

The DNR is seeking input from all Indiana residents, not just active hunters. The survey typically takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete.

Participation is entirely voluntary, and respondents may skip questions at their discretion.

All answers are kept secure and will not be connected to the participant’s contact information for reporting purposes.

The survey window closes on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

Residents can access the survey via the Indiana DNR Qualtrics portal. The DNR notes that while many customers in their database received unique links via email, the general public is also encouraged to provide feedback.

For inquiries regarding the survey or participation, residents may contact the Deer Biologist at DeerSurvey@dnr.IN.gov or visit on.IN.gov/deer-survey for additional information.
